St. Pete was going to tear down their landmark pier and build a new one called the Lens. Most of it was outdoors and you had to walk to get to the end of it. This isn't a good idea with it being a retirement area and Florida is HOT in the summer months. The citizens voted building the Lens down, so the city doesn't know what to do. In the meantime, the pier just sits there. The local economy is hurt by this since it was a major attraction to the city.
