The New Gemini Catamaran - 3SUMs big sister

It's good they have Catalina building this boat. The problem is, they didn't consult me for my opinion and, I have opinions. Here is my recommendations for what they are worth:

  1. Make the engines easy to repair. You need 2. Similar to the PDQ. How about a couple outboards mounted midship that can be pulled up?
  2. Go back to the screecher. Furling spinnakers are the way to go.
  3. Stackpack. Drop the sail and go.
  4. Self tailing genoa.
  5. Mast dropping system similar to Telstar. Makes it easy to move the boat through locks and whatnot.
  6. Thruhull everything. Drilling into fiberglass doesn't cut it.

Shiny new bollard

The marina came by the other day and replaced our old saggy bollard. Unfortunately, they didn't tie up 3SUM and ended up banging into the pier.

I'm on the boat just chilling.

The Optimus sailboats are fluttering by and preteen and teen voices are squealing in excited delight. It is a great sound that sailing is still alive. Not all kids play video games.

Will Wag for Food

Finally! We are getting our boat from Sailor's Wharf. Hopefully everything will be operational and we can take her out for a quick sail. We will probably bring home the sails and give them a thorough cleaning.

Facebook Post

I had some guy post on facebook calling the Telstar and Gemini the MacGregor of multihulls. Here was my response:

Would-be and pretend sailors are unaware that weight is a major factor in a sailboat’s performance especially in multihulls. Wafer Thin Construction (WTC) boats are intended to make a boat more responsive and faster especially in adverse conditions and requires advanced sailing skills. WTC sailors sail rather than remaining in their slip terrified of smashing their boat into the dock yet again.
