I really had to step down the resolution to get this posted to the blog. I need to find a better way since the resolution on the original is quite spectacular. It would be more interesting if the wind was a bit more than 3 or 4 knots.

Coast Guard rescues five people from sailboat 200 miles off N.C. coast - Daily Press
Associated Press
MANTEO, N.C. — The U.S. Coast Guard says it rescued five people from a sailboat after the boat's mast broke about 200 miles off the coast of North Carolina.
A statement from the Coast Guard says watchstanders at a command center in Portsmouth, Virginia, were notified Friday afternoon that the 55-foot catamaran Rain Maker suffered a broken mast in 40 mph winds and 13-foot seas. It occurred about 200 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina.
A helicopter crew was able to hoist all five boaters from the damaged sailboat. The Coast Guard says the boaters were taken to Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo in good condition

Our sail over the Holidays:
I always like to hear the rush of the water and just kicking back and letting the wind take us away. The best rush is when you extinguish the fires.

The New Gemini Catamaran - 3SUMs big sister
It's good they have Catalina building this boat. The problem is, they didn't consult me for my opinion and, I have opinions. Here is my recommendations for what they are worth:
Gemini Catamarans || Models - Video Gallery
- Make the engines easy to repair. You need 2. Similar to the PDQ. How about a couple outboards mounted midship that can be pulled up?
- Go back to the screecher. Furling spinnakers are the way to go.
- Stackpack. Drop the sail and go.
- Self tailing genoa.
- Mast dropping system similar to Telstar. Makes it easy to move the boat through locks and whatnot.
- Thruhull everything. Drilling into fiberglass doesn't cut it.

Shiny new bollard
The marina came by the other day and replaced our old saggy bollard. Unfortunately, they didn't tie up 3SUM and ended up banging into the pier.

I'm on the boat just chilling.
The Optimus sailboats are fluttering by and preteen and teen voices are squealing in excited delight. It is a great sound that sailing is still alive. Not all kids play video games.

Will Wag for Food
Finally! We are getting our boat from Sailor's Wharf. Hopefully everything will be operational and we can take her out for a quick sail. We will probably bring home the sails and give them a thorough cleaning.
